The Early Literacy Skills Builder (ELSB) app is an educational tool designed to foster both print and phonemic awareness through systematic instruction. This program spans multiple years and is structured into seven distinct levels, allowing for ongoing assessments that cater to individual student pacing.

The complimentary version of the app provides access to Level 1 - Lesson 1 and Level 5 - Lesson 1, while additional levels are available for purchase through the in-app store.

Extensive research over five years conducted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has demonstrated the effectiveness of ELSB as a literacy program, showing superiority compared to programs focusing solely on sight-word recognition. ELSB operates based on principles of systematic and direct instruction, utilizing features such as scripted lessons, least-prompt strategies, clear teachable objectives, built-in lesson repetition, and ongoing assessments.

The program’s seven levels comprise five structured lessons each, with all students beginning at Level 1. Instruction is delivered in one-on-one or small group settings during two daily sessions of 30 minutes each. Formal assessments are administered upon completion of each level. ELSB appears to provide a comprehensive framework for implementing a multi-year literacy curriculum.
